A shikara full of people on a still lake in thick mist

About the studio · Abohar, Punjab

We wait

For the glance before the pheras. For the light to turn. For your father to forget we're there.

Focusing on Perfection

Focusing on Perfection

It’s on our logo, but we’ve never met a perfect wedding day and we don’t go looking for one. The crooked dupatta, the cousin who cries first, the uncle who won’t stop dancing. We keep all of it, in focus.

Meet Sanju

Owner and lead photographer

I started with one camera and a lot of family weddings here in Abohar. Fourteen years on, I still get there before the decorators, because the best light of the day doesn't wait for the schedule.

Sanju's Payal Studio is a wedding photography and film studio in Abohar, Punjab, working across Fazilka, Malout, Muktsar, Bathinda, Sri Ganganagar, Hanumangarh and wherever else a family asks us to go.

How we work

Four things we do at every wedding

  1. Bride adjusting her maang tikka in soft morning light in a field

    We come early

Before the decorators and the first cup of tea. We walk the place, find the light and work out whose father is going to need a quiet minute.

  2. Bride and groom in a pink turban and pink lehenga standing together in a garden

    We stand back

Long lenses during the ceremony, and nobody gets asked to do anything twice. The pheras stay yours.

  3. Couple face to face among golden grass

    Nobody has to pose

We give you somewhere to stand and something to laugh about, then we go quiet. Twenty minutes is usually plenty.

  4. Bride in a red lehenga twirling under chandeliers with the groom behind her

    We stay until you leave

The cameras stay on the floor for as long as you do. After that, it's 30 days for your photographs and 45 to 60 for your film.

The road so far

From Abohar, outwards

  1. Bride in red and groom in ivory holding his kirpan, side by side

    Home

    Abohar

Where the studio is, and where we still shoot most of our weddings. We know the halls, the caterers and the shortcuts.

  2. Women in sunglasses dancing under a sunflower arch

Fazilka, Malout, Muktsar, Bathinda, Sri Ganganagar

    Punjab and next door

A morning drive for us, so nobody pays for a hotel. Most of our haldis and family functions happen along this road.

  3. Couple running across a courtyard as pigeons take off, Albert Hall behind them

    Pre-wedding shoots

    Jaipur

We go early to beat the crowds at the pink palace steps, and for the pigeons outside Albert Hall.

  4. Couple on snow, the woman in a long red dress trailing across the white

Wherever you want to go next

    Kashmir

A red dress on fresh snow, with three of us carrying the fabric. If you can get there, we'll bring the cameras.
