A wedding day

One day, five kinds of light.

  1. Morning

    Getting ready

Soft light, jewellery laid out, your mother fixing the dupatta one last time. We come early and stay quiet.

Bride adjusting her maang tikka in soft morning light in a field
Close portrait of a smiling bride with eyes closed, wearing gold jewellery
Bride surrounded by her friends and sisters, adjusting her lehenga on a misty morning
  2. Noon

    The haldi

Turmeric, petals, loud aunties and louder cousins. We keep moving so nobody has to pose.

Groom laughing as friends and family smear him with haldi
Groom in yellow cheering with one arm raised at his haldi
Women in sunglasses dancing under a sunflower arch
  3. Afternoon

    The vows

We stand back with long lenses, so the ceremony stays yours and the small glances still get kept.

  4. Golden hour

    Just the two of you

Twenty quiet minutes as the sun drops. Most couples tell us this ends up being their favourite part.

  5. Evening

    The celebration

Entries, sparklers, the last bhangra. The cameras stay on the floor until you leave it.

Films

After dark, the films begin.

Every wedding film we make is cut like a short story, with real vows and real voices. Nine of them, from our last two seasons.

We forgot they were there, and then the album made my mother cry all over again.

Harpreet & Simran · Abohar

They replied in an hour, turned up early, and the film feels like watching our day from inside it.

Rohit & Nandini · Sri Ganganagar

My father hates cameras. There is a photo of him dancing that we have now framed in three houses.
